Can I sell opensource software? or sell services for opensource software?

| | August 4, 2015

I was wondering can I sell SaaS service for GPL/AGPL application?

I own a server. Can I install GPL/AGPL Software on a subdomain (for each client) and sell it to client. I must specify that I am not selling the application I am selling the service that I am providing.

  1. Does GPL/AGPL licence provide that freedom?
  2. What all other opensource license provide such freedom?
  3. Can I sell the opensource software after making some enhancement (customization for client)? (I agree that I will provide the source code if necessary, but question is can I sell it or not)

One Response to “Can I sell opensource software? or sell services for opensource software?”

  1. As far as I know, GPL does not limit you in selling anything. It’s copyright what does. GPL obliges you to provide the source code of your software.
