Using an Open Source Software

| | August 4, 2015

Well my question is simple… If I download an open source software with the GPL License I would like to know if I can edit the code an create another program with that code and then sell the software?

  1. You can not sell the combined work under any circumstances.

If the original copyright holder is just a single company or a small group of individuals, you can explain your business plan to them and ask them to issue a separate license to you or to your clients, possibly sharing the profits or otherwise rewarding their efforts and consent.

  2. Did you read the license? That is there for it.
